The Millennium Goals brought about a great wave of change to the ways in which countries go about conducting their internal and external policies - the UK included. Paradoxically Goal 7, which strives to alert countries to the importance of ensuring environmental sustainability, has been shrouded in controversy. While many perceive it as an idealistic stab at launching a green revolution, no individual has volunteered to take up the sword of microgeneration and lead the rest in to battle, rather looking at governments to take action.

Pressurised cylinders were introduced to the UK market as long ago as the 1980s. They are often referred to as unvented cylinders and are proving to be highly popular. Their popularity is evident both in the domestic market and the professional space with plumbing and heating engineers. In 2007 unvented systems accounted for around 50% of the installed systems for the first time.

The vast majority of reverse osmosis reviews are positive, and in some cases there are glowing comments about the ability of RO units to clean up brackish well water, or water with very high iron or sulfate content. And I would also praise RO systems’ ability to clean up such water. But most of us don’t have brackish water that needs this very expensive and cumbersome technology. In this article let’s take a look at a reverse osmosis water treatment comparison with a newer water filter technology option.

Solar Photovoltaic cells, also known as Solar PV, are silicon wafer based panels that absorb energy from the sun and then transfer that energy to your home. When photons of light hit the silicon wafer, they tip them of their chemical balance, creating a movement of protons and electrons in opposite directions, thus generating an electrical current. Solar PV cells are already used in some common appliances such as watches and calculators. Naturally, the domestic or commercial panels come in larger sizes to provide sufficient output. Over the years, some solar photovoltaic cells have been used successfully to generate electricity for very large buildings and other installations including the National Grid.

With green blankets covering the buildings and cranes looming darkly overhead, Britain’s commercial building boom doesn’t seem to be much affected by the economic slump. As other industries cut back, the commercial building industry is not doing so, which is resulting in a noticeable shortage of workers to meet the demands of British construction companies.

It is generally known that systems such as your domestic boiler require periodic service in order to keep them in good operating condition. There are several ways to ensure the maintenance is done on a fixed schedule, such as using the service interval time controls as a reminder mechanism

In recent years a lot of focus was placed on upgrading old inefficient boilers that are polluting and uneconomical. New boilers were introduced that offer more efficient operations and less pollution output. However, little emphasis was put on the importance of maintaining and servicing the boilers throughout their lifetime.

In 2005 the Building Regulations introduced the new Part L demanding all new boilers installed to be categorized as high efficiency systems. This includes condensing boilers and combination (also known as combi) boilers which use a secondary heat exchanger (or an extra large single heat exchanger) to recoup the heat that would otherwise be expelled into the atmosphere via the boiler flue. The new Building Regulations Part L also called for heating controls, system insulation and hot water cylinders among other components to improve their respective energy efficiency levels.
