Architectural design catapults into the twenty-first century with digital-visualization software designed to permit creation of realistic 3D renderings at a fraction of the cost of traditional images.

In the first century B.C., the Roman architect Marcus Vitruvius penned De Architectura, the classic multi-volume work on his craft - a work that has stood the test of time and is still prized by modern architects for its all-inclusive treatment of architectural principles and standards.

Well toss that idea right out of your consciousness. Architectural rendering has a whole new image for the twenty-first century. Think digital. Think digital visualization.

Architecture incorporates more than just a building’s exterior; it encompasses the interior environment and its overall flow, as well. You should use your space to its best possible advantage; and, like professional developers, realtors and architects, you should consult a professional design firm to handle your updating or renovation design work.

But you shouldn’t trust just any firm - you need a company that can provide you with the most photorealistic architectural renderings modern technology can yield. You need a firm who can take convert CAD drawings to impressive 3D renderings that virtually leap to life.

An appropriately equipped design firm will have the capacity to convert CAD drawings to lifelike 3D renderings. This firm should also be able to evaluate your space and work with you to develop an interior concept that suits your taste and style - while respecting the existing architectural style of the home, room or office.

The design firm you select should keep our old friend Vitruvius’ three-pronged concept of durability, usefulness and beauty in mind. Who, after all, wants to live or work in a space that may be sturdy and functional, but is visually unappealing? On the other hand, the loveliest living (or working) space is worthless if it doesn’t adequately address your needs - or if the ceiling caves in after three weeks! Your design firm should be able to provide 3D visualizations and renderings, so you can envision the finished product even before the work begins.

And you want someone who pays attention to the details. Your architectural renderings should include realistic environmental elements - like trees and bushes, landscape-design components even sidewalks with teensy people walking along them.

But you don’t want to pay an arm and a leg. You want something cutting edge, yet cost efficient and practical. Oddly enough, a professional architectural design firm skilled in providing 3D renderings could be less expensive than a traditional design company that drafts with outdated software - or by hand.

Oh, and before you go and dismiss Vitruvius’ relevance to modern architecture, consider this: He was a true visionary. When De Architectura was published, lawn mowers and bulldozers were centuries from being conceptualized. Yet his first volume encompasses many subjects that now fall into the realm of landscape architecture. Say what you want about those ancient Romans but they were a visionary bunch!
